Why Buy Gold?

"Why buy gold?" people often wonder, thinking it is merely an extravagance. Gold, which has been called "the metal of kings" is one of the most popular material for jewelry. It is durable and elegant, precious, but not ostentatious. It is not wonder why wedding rings are often made of gold, and there is hardly a groom that says to his bride "Why buy gold?"

Gold is also an excellent investment, and it is one that you can literally keep your eye on, if your investment is jewelry. Most gold investers, however, buy gold stocks or gold coins, but others may wonder why buy gold stocks when you can wear your investments. Gold is always a good investment, because there has hardly been a time when there wasn't a keen demand for the yellow metal. Every year, there are many thousands more tons of gold that are bought than are actually mined. The demand for gold has fluctuated somewhat in recent years, but very few astute investors would ask "Why buy gold?". Perhaps they might argue that the rising prices will eventually cut down on demand, but gold is such a perennial favorite that it seems unlikely that people will refrain from buying it, even if the prices are high.

People who say "why buy gold" are obviously not interested in jewelry, of which has been the dominating metal for centuries. It is a symbol of wealth, yet it often sets off jewels and makes a lovely "frame". Gold is lightweight and is not heavy on the ears and the hands, like other metals. For a silvery look, there is also white gold which is perfect when used with diamonds. It is always better to buy genuine gold than to watch your neck and your ears turn green from cheap imitations. It is rarely if ever worth it to buy any yellowish metal that looks like gold. The genuine article will last a lifetime and can become your children's inheritance.
